The Treatment

OUR PHILOSOPHY
Somewhere House is a residential rehabilitation centre for alcoholics and drug addicts monitored by the CSCI(Commission for Social Care Inspection) for quality of care. We do our best to provide treatment and support for individuals who wish to make changes in their lives. The opportunity for the individual to look at all aspects of themselves on a holistic level, drawing on their own knowledge of themselves, physically, emotionally and spiritually, this takes place in our therapeutic community. We will help every individual to work towards there own goals within our capabilities as a team and also source other professionals when necessary.

We recognise that by helping one individual from a family to change it can often help other family and friends; we encourage the family relationships and recognise that the individual will need the support of those around them when they leave so building those relationships whilst in Somewhere House is vital.

Our therapeutic programme is based upon total abstinence from all mood altering chemicals. We believe that everyone has the right to change and develop; we believe this is possible in the right environment and with the right support.

We offer all clients the following:

  • Group therapy
  • One-to-one counselling sessions
  • Educational programmes

  • Access to local medical & legal services
  • 24-hour staff support

We have an internal and external monitoring system, externally by the CSCI, internal supervision, external supervision, staff meetings, debriefing and reviews by staff and clients. All staff will be trained and will be encouraged to extend their already good knowledge with further training.

Somewhere House has an expectation that every person who chooses to reside at our premises is also saying that they are choosing to take part in our program. The opportunities will be made for the person to explore both past and present experiences and how these have influenced their current lifestyle and how best they feel they need to change to move on to a more fulfilled life.

WHAT THE CLIENT CAN EXPECT
Somewhere House is a person-centred programme, the staffs have experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which links an individuals thinking and behaviour which can unblock the patterns established for many years. The therapy side allows the individual to explore other options and solutions to the challenges. ‘Life choices’ is another option on offer as well as, solution-focussed therapy. We also provide a person centered and a 12 step approach, the client can make this choice.(treatment matching) Each resident will take part in there own care plan which allows the individual to monitor and goal set there own treatment; this is reviewed on a monthly basis as a minimum.

Individual session with their one to one counsellor will take place and groups are held daily. Everyone will be expected to take part in all activities unless prior permission by a member of staff has been given. We believe that in group therapy the client has as much to offer the other clients as the staff and encourage each person to offer constructive feedback and open identification. and discussion.

We ask that each resident attends AA or NA twice a month as a minimum to have experienced the 12 step support on offer in the community.

Every resident is expected to be responsible for the running of the house and daily duties are given.

The opportunity to cook, paint, draw, develop hobbies are encouraged.

Somewhere House recognises the value of strong family ties and will offer support to the family where it is deemed appropriate. Family visits are encouraged and can be planned via a member of staff.

Many families have been affected by the course of which addiction takes so we will always take this into consideration when setting up family counselling, meetings and visits.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
Our programme is designed to take into consideration the individual and the maximum stay is for six months. This allows flexibility for the individual and recognises that everyone is an individual and should be treated so. We have an expectation of a minimum of three months and review recognising that further time is generally required after a life time of addiction.

On leaving we offer support both face to face, email and by telephone. An aftercare package can be negotiated and there is a cost implication.

MOVE ON SUPPORT

We currently have 12 beds which have been created to enable further support in the community. We have two floating support staff who allow individuals to live independently, make a contribution to society and be supported at the same time. Some of the tenants only require minimal support where others may need more. Once again this follows the theme of setting the needs according to the individual.

We take outside referrals for the houses which allows either local indiviuals returning from rehab to resettle in their community or those wishing to extend thier support in the area. All individuals are assessed before entering the houses and abstinence is a must.

IS IT FOR YOU?
Anyone can benefit from our program providing they want to. We can help if you let us but you also have to be willing to take part and give yourself a chance to change. Somewhere House is comfortable, clean and supportive showing both respect for you as an individual but also respect by offering you our best.
